How to Resize a PNG Image Online
Our free online PNG resizer lets you change the dimensions of any PNG graphic, logo, screenshot, or transparent icon in three simple steps:
1. Upload or drop your PNG file into the resizer box above (supports files up to 25 MB).
2. Choose your resize method and dimensions:
• Exact Dimensions: Enter your target width and height in pixels. Toggle the aspect ratio lock (🔒) to scale proportionally without distortion.
• Fit Within: Scale your image to fit inside a maximum bounding box while preserving proportions.
• Scale Percentage: Shrink or enlarge your image using a percentage slider (from 10% to 200%).
3. Select output format and download: Keep "Original Format" or choose PNG to preserve transparent backgrounds, or switch to JPG if you need a solid white background. Click "Resize Image" to generate and download your resized PNG instantly.
All image processing runs entirely in your web browser using client-side HTML5 Canvas. Your photos and graphics remain private on your computer or phone and are never uploaded to an external server. You can also use our complete image resizer to scale JPG and WebP files.
Can You Resize a PNG Without Losing Quality?
When searching for how to resize PNG without losing quality, the outcome depends on whether you are downsizing or enlarging:
• Downsizing (Making PNGs Smaller): When you shrink a PNG's pixel dimensions, the resizer uses high-quality bicubic interpolation to blend pixel details down into a smaller canvas. Because PNG is an inherently lossless raster format, saving the output creates crisp edges, sharp typography, and clean color transitions without JPEG-style compression artifacts.
• Upscaling (Enlarging PNGs): If you enlarge a raster PNG beyond its original capture dimensions (for example, taking a 500 × 500 px icon and expanding it to 2000 × 2000 px), the browser must interpolate and invent new pixels between existing ones. While smoothing algorithms prevent blocky pixels, upscaling cannot create new photographic detail that was never in the original file.
• Preserving Alpha Transparency: Transparent backgrounds in PNG files are fully preserved during resizing. Unlike lossy formats that fill backgrounds with black or white, our resizer retains full 8-bit alpha channel transparency so your logos and UI graphics remain transparent.
Resizing PNG Pixel Dimensions vs. Compressing File Size in KB
It is helpful to distinguish between a PNG pixel resizer and a file compressor:
• Resizing PNG Dimensions: Changes the width and height in pixels (such as reducing a 3000 × 2000 px screenshot down to 1200 × 800 px). Scaling down pixel dimensions naturally shrinks the file size in KB or MB because there are fewer total pixels to store.
• Compressing PNG File Size (KB): If your goal is to shrink a PNG to an exact file size limit (such as 100KB, 200KB, or 500KB) without changing its visual width and height, use our dedicated image compressor or compress PNG tool. The compressor optimizes color palettes and compression tables to hit your target file weight.
• Resizing PNG to JPG: If you want to convert a PNG into a lightweight JPG photo while resizing, select "JPG / JPEG" in the Output Format dropdown above. The resizer automatically composites any transparent areas onto a clean white background.
To test how your resized PNG will look in physical print, check your dimensions with our print size calculator or inspect density using our PNG DPI checker.
Standard PNG Dimensions for Web, Logos & UI
PNG files are commonly used for graphics that need sharp edges or transparent backgrounds. The right pixel dimensions depend on where the image will be used. These are common reference sizes, not universal requirements.
| PNG Size | Common Use |
|---|---|
| 1080 × 1080 px | Square social posts, icons, and product graphics |
| 1920 × 1080 px | Full HD web banners and video overlays |
| 512 × 512 px | App icons, favicons, and transparent logos |
| 1200 × 630 px | Open Graph link preview images |
